Alan is the UK's favourite gardener and for four successive
years was voted Television Personality of the Year by the
Garden Writers Guild as well as being twice named Gardening
Writer of the Year. For seven years Alan presented BBC2's
'Gardeners' World', and also headed the hugely popular 'Groundforce'
and 'How To Be A Gardener'. Alan writes regularly in BBC
Gardeners' World Magazine, as well as being gardening correspondent
for the Daily Express, Sunday Express and writing a weekly
column for the Radio Times. He has written almost forty
gardening books plus best-selling novels. He won a Gold
Medal at the Chelsea Flower Show in 1985 for a country kitchen
garden. Amongst his many awards Alan was appointed MBE in
2000 and has received the Royal Horticultural Society's
highest accolade - the Victoria Medal of Honour. Alan lives
in Hampshire with his wife and family and enjoys relaxing
in his boat which he sails from the Isle Of Wight.
